Victor Reinier about dismissal at Flikken Maastricht: 'Occasionally hurts me'

Victor Reinier has responded for the first time to his dismissal from the program Flikken Maastricht. “I did everything I could to turn the tide,” the 62-year-old actor tells the Belgian magazine Dag Allemaal.

Reinier was fired in February from the popular police series after complaints about aggressive and misogynistic behavior. The actor allegedly also had disagreements with his co-star Angela Schijf. The two reportedly disagreed about the series’ script.

The actor did not recognize himself in the accusations. “It’s nonsense,” he said earlier. “That’s mudslinging, and I completely distance myself from that.”

A return to Flikken Maastricht or a reconciliation with Schijf is out of the question, says Reinier. “That ship has sailed, as they say in English. I did everything I could to turn the tide, but choices have been made.”

“The need for a conversation with Angela is no longer there,” he continues. “I really did try, believe me. Talking is the only way to get closer, but that clearly didn’t work. Then it stops, and that’s a shame. Oh well, everyone is entitled to their own choices, but I think what I think.”

‘The people know me, right’

Reinier is letting go of how things will proceed with Flikken Maastricht and the ratings. “I don’t begrudge anyone anything, because I don’t feel like feeling bad. On the other hand, it is a project that I have put 100 percent of my effort into for a large part of my life, almost eighteen years,” says the actor. “I had already come up with a very nice ending, but that will now be different. That does make me sad sometimes.”

Reinier now wants to focus on other work. He is keeping the content of that to himself for the time being. According to the actor, several clients want to work with him, despite the accusations. “The people know me, right. I’ve been doing this job for thirty years. They know who I am, so they also know how to interpret everything.”
