Although Max Verstappen thinks it is a shame that the Grand Prix of the Netherlands is disappearing, he emphasizes that he is not yet saying goodbye to Zandvoort. The Red Bull driver knows for sure that in the future he will race in other racing classes on the circuit in the seaside resort.

The 27-year-old Verstappen made a cheerful impression when he joined the Red Bull on Thursday afternoon in Red Bull on Circuit Zandvoort. After a month’s break, his home race is on the program this weekend.

“I had a good vacation,” said Verstappen, who was shown last week in a video on social media in which he was racing in a golf cart. “That was actually the only time I was busy with racing. I also had some meetings, but otherwise it was nice and quiet.”

Verstappen can only enjoy his home race in Zandvoort twice. The Grand Prix of the Netherlands will disappear from the calendar after next year. For Verstappen it doesn’t feel like a definitive farewell.

“Of course we will not return here with Formula 1, but the circuit is not going anywhere,” he continued. “I can continue to enjoy it in other ways in the future. Of course, that feeling with all those fans here, I will miss that. But it is not that I will never drive here again.”

Verstappen is proud of what the organization of the Grand Prix of the Netherlands has put down. “Many other Grands Prix have copied the Zandvoort formula. That is not for nothing. We come from a small country, but have big ideas.”

From a sporting point of view, this year there is little to win for Verstappen. With ten Grands Prix to go, he has no chance for title prolongation. “But I will always try to make the best of it,” said Verstappen.

“I don’t really have an objective if I look at the World Cup stand. Of course it is all different next year, but it is good to understand the car better and to try to make the car a little faster.”

The Grand Prix weekend in Zandvoort starts on Friday at 12.30 pm with the first free practice. The qualification is Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday starts the race at the same time.
