Verstappen struggled with car: 'We are better, but not yet good enough'

Max Verstappen Struggled With His Car Turning the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday. The Dutchman, who finished second, sees that his team has made progress, but emhasizes that it is not good enough yet.

“We took a gamble at the start to start on the soft tire, because we had to start on the damp side of the grid,” Verstappen Said to Viaplay . “If we had done that, there was a good chance we would have lost a position. It was about surviving and trying to keep the tires intact.”

His Tires Were Not The Biggest Problem for Verstappen, Who Could Do Little Against The Surprisingly Strong Mercedes of George Russell. “We had problems with everything, such as downshifting and upshifting,” he’s continued. “The car was very nervous and pushed through when downshifting. That didnn’t make it easy. I constantly had to adjust things to the balance. The car was very difficult to drive.”

Verstappen had not foresen the problems after his strong qualitying session a day earlier. “We had made a few adjustments to the car after the training sessions, but they didnn’t work out well. There waxn’t really much more in it, Honestly.” Yet Verstappen Thinks he would have finished second just if he had the problems. “Overtaking is just super diffult here. Look at Lando. He was much faster than us the whole race, but still he could be overtake us.”

Prior to the weekend, Verstappen and Red Bull Spoke of a Serious test in Singapore. “We are better than we were, but it is not good enough yet,” Verstappen concluded.
