Max Verstappen is onder de indruk van het tempo van Ferrari tijdens de eerste twee vrije trainingen voor de Grand Prix van Monaco. In beide sessies zette Charles Leclerc vrijdag de snelste tijd neer.
“The Ferraris were very fast. They have taken a step forward,” said the 27-year-old Verstappen after the second free practice session.
In the first practice session, Verstappen finished second behind Leclerc, who was 0.163 seconds faster. Leclerc’s teammate Lewis Hamilton finished ninth.
Later in the day, Verstappen did not get past tenth in the second practice session. Leclerc was again first and was more than seven tenths faster than the Red Bull driver, while Hamilton finished third. The Briton was about six tenths faster than the Dutchman.
“The first practice session was quite positive,” said Verstappen. “Before the second practice session, we made some adjustments to see how far we could push the balance. I think we pushed too much. I couldn’t attack the corners as much as I wanted to.”
The qualification is scheduled for Saturday in Monaco. “I don’t expect us to be the fastest, but we want to get a little closer. I have confidence that we can be closer than we are now.”
