Verstappen looked back on Piastri at home: ‘had to laugh in the car’

Max Verstappen has enjoyed his peerless overtaking move on Oscar Piastri on Sunday. The reigning world champion won the Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna thanks to his move in the first corner. He watched it back when he got home.

“When I got home on Sunday after the race, I watched it back,” Verstappen said on Thursday in Monaco, where the next Grand Prix is already on the program this weekend.

“Of course I knew how it felt in the car, but it’s nice to look back and see how close it all was.”

Verstappen knew immediately after the action on the outside of WK-leader Piastri that he had done something special. “When I went through the next corner, I had to laugh. ‘That was good’, I thought.”

Pastri had already admitted after the race that Verstappen had surprised him with the attack from a seemingly impossible position. “If you look back, you see that he was very busy with George Russell, because he was actually second,” Verstappen said.

“So he didn’t expect it. I understand that completely. And I took the momentum from the outside. Then you can’t react anymore.”
