Max Verstappen had a good feeling on Friday from the free training sessions for the Singapore Grand Prix. The Dutchman had expected a difficult weekend, but can still compete with the fastest drivers.
“The car was certainly not bad,” said Verstappen shortly after the second free practice. “It is similar to how things were going the last two weekends. Even then we didn’t come across any big problems.”
Verstappen won the latter two races, in Italy and Azerbaijan. As a result, he even dreams of title prolongation, although the gap to World Championship leader Oscar Piastri with 69 points is still considerably.
After his victory in Baku, Verstappen said that Singapore would be a serious test whether he can really challenge the McLaren drivers. According to Verstappen, his team still has to work on the details in the run -up to qualification. “But at least we no longer have to change the entire adjustment, that’s nice,” he continued.
“We still have to fine tune a few things, because we need something more to participate in the qualification in the front tomorrow. But in general I am quite satisfied.”
Verstappen decided the day third, in just over one tenth of the fastest driver Piastri.
