Richard Verschoor

Richard Verschoor won the Formula 2 main race on the Red Bull Ring on Sunday. Thanks to his victory in Austria, the Dutchman also took the lead in the championship.

The 24-year-old Verschoor started third and gradually worked his way forward in a fine race. A day earlier, he had finished fourth in the sprint race.

Thanks to his solid weekend, Verschoor took the lead from Alex Dunne, who was allowed to take over Lando Norris’ seat in the first practice at McLaren in Formula 1 on Friday. Dunne finished second on Sunday. The Italian Leonardo Fornaroli completed the top three.

In the championship, Verschoor now has an eight-point lead over Dunne (116 to 108). Jack Crawford is third, 31 points behind the driver from Benschop.

For Verschoor, it was his third victory of the season. He is in his fifth season in the most important stepping stone class towards Formula 1.
