Van Persie denies 'talk sessions' at Feyenoord after critical interview Steijn

Trainer Robin van Persie fights that “talk sessions” took place at Feyenoord following the critical interview by Sem Steijn after the Europa League match with SC Braga. The captain blamed his teammates that they were “too selfish”.

Already in Portugal, Van Persie indicated that he did not share Steijn’s vision. A day later, De Telegraaf reported that “talk sessions” would take place at Feyenoord. But that is nonsense, Van Persie claims in the run -up to the match with FC Groningen.

“I read that there have been talk sessions. I missed that,” said Van Persie cynically. “That is not the truth. I speak to players around every match, and I also spoke Sem. But that is not a ‘talk session’. That’s how it was described.”

Van Persie, however, repeated that he would have liked Steijn to have expressed himself differently. “I was able to follow the content of Sem’s message to a certain extent, because we have indeed made wrong choices,” said the former striker.

“It is only true that we have not only made the wrong choices at the ball. Even without a ball we did not put enough in it. That connection was not optimal. As a coach I prefer that he mentions that than he uses that word (egoism, ed.).”

Van Persie does not regret the setup against Braga

In addition to Steijn’s interview, the press conference towards FC Groningen-Out was mainly about the arrangement of Van Persie in the lost duel with SC Braga. He changed his setup and left Ayase Ueda, Givairo Read and Leo Sauer in Rotterdam.

“I thought it was a good time to let some players start in the base for the first time,” said Van Persie. “Everyone knows how that went, but in the end I support that.”

“I think it’s funny that we have had almost every press conference about when players would get the chance. Everyone came by. Then they play once and it is not good again. I think that is funny. If I say A, you say B. if I say B, you say A.”

Van Persie can rely on an almost fit group against FC Groningen (kick -off 2.30 pm) on Sunday. Only Gernot Trauner, Jakub Moder and Thomas Beelen are not available.
