Botic van de Zandschulp appears to be able to participate in Roland Garros. The tennis player from Veenendaal is still recovering from a groin injury, but seems to be fit in time for the Grand Slam tournament in Paris.
“The status is now that Botic’s recovery is going well,” his manager Dille Rikkert told NU.nl on Tuesday. “We are leaving for Paris on Thursday,” his coach Peter Lucassen added. “He will make the final preparations there.”
The 29-year-old Van de Zandschulp has been struggling with a groin injury since the end of April. He then retired in the opening round of the Masters tournament in Madrid and also withdrew from the qualifying tournament for the Masters in Rome.
Due to the persistent injury woes, Van de Zandschulp dropped from 85th to 89th place in the world ranking. Fellow countryman Jesper de Jong passed Van de Zandschulp and is the world number 97. Tallon Griekspoor is the best Dutchman in 34th place.
In the past two years, Van de Zandschulp was eliminated in the first round in Paris. In 2022, he reached the third round, but had to acknowledge his superior in Rafael Nadal on the Parisian gravel.
Griekspoor and De Jong are also participating in the main tournament in Paris, which starts on Sunday, May 25. For the women, Suzan Lamens (WTA-67) and Arantxa Rus (WTA-99) will compete. Anouk Koevermans and Gijs Brouwer still have a chance to qualify for a place in the main draw via the qualifying tournament.
