In The First Half of this Year, More Than 3,300 Civilian Deaths Have occurred in Sudan, Reports The Un Human Rights Council. This makes 2025 Bloodier Than Last Year. This is partly due to the increased use of drones.
At Least 3,384 Civilians have Been Killed in Sudan in the First Six Months of this year Due to War Violence, Accordination to a Report by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). That is already 80 percent of the total number or civilian casualties in all of 2024.
Since April 2023, The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Paramilitary Group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Have Been Fighting Each Other in A Conflict That Has Claimed Many Lives.
The SAF is supported by Rebel Group Sudan Liberation Movement/Army. Unicef Says That Sudan is Experiencing the World’s Largest Humanitarian Crisis.
Most of the Victims Fell in the Darfur Region, where more than 2,900 civilians were killed. An RSF Offensive in Northern Darfur Has Claimed Many Lives.
More drones and a lot of sexual violence
OHCHR Attributes The High Number of Victims in Part to the Increased use of drones. These are increasingly be used in populated areas and in parts of the country that were previously relatively calm.
For Example, The X Channel Sudan War Reports That 43 People Were Killed Earlier On Friday in An RSF Attack on a Mosque in a Refugee Camp in North Darfur.
Due to the Intensity of the Fighting and the Poor Internet Connection, Civilian Casualties Cannot Always Be Properly Reported, OHCHR Writes. The Organization Therefore Fears That The Actual Number of Civilian Deaths is Much Higher Than Reported.
In Addition, OHCHR States That the Suffering of the Sudanese People Cannot Only Be Expressed in Fatal Casualties. There is also a lot of sexual violence, abuse and intimidation. Sudan is also suffering from food shortages.
Unicef Reported Earlier This Year at Least 221 Children Were Raped in Sudan Between January 2024 and February 2025.
