UAE Team Emirates Rider João Almeida Criticized His Teammates in The Vuelta a España on Sunday. The Portuguese Rider Could Not Count on His Team’s Support on the Final Climb of the Ninth Stage.
“I specially missed my teammates today,” Almeida Said after the stage. “Nobody was near me at the end. It is what it is.”
The 27-year-old Almeida Lost 24 Seconds to Jonas Vingegaard in The Ninth Stage. The Leader of Visma-Lease A Bike Attacked Alone 10 kilometers from the Finish and was not Caught by the Competition.
Almeida was surprised by the Attack of Visma-Lease a Bike and Vingegaard. “I Didn’t Expect Them to Go There Already. They Went Very Hard and I Couldn’t Close the Gap Because of that. It wasn’t very steep, so I think I could have followed Jonas Otherwise.”
In The Chase After Vingegaard, Only Tom Pidcock and Felix Gall Could Keep Up With Almeida. But he did not get much help from the duo. “I saw that they were at their limit and couldn’t do much.”
Marc Soler Crossed the Finish Line Almost A Minute and A Half After Almeida, as the First Teammate. Juan Ayuso, Previously Co-Leader at Uae Before the Vuelta, Lost Almost 22 minutes. In The General Classification, Almeida is Third, 1.15 Minutes Behind Leader Torstein Traen. Vingegaard is second at 37 seconds.
