Two people arrested for shooting bride at a French wedding

The French police arrested two people on Monday on suspicion of shooting a bride. This happened at a wedding in the southern French village of Goult, reports the French broadcaster BFMTV.

The police are not releasing much information about the identity of the suspects.

The arrests follow a day after several shooters opened fire on the wedding in Goult, near Avignon. That happened on the night from Saturday to Sunday, at the moment the wedding was almost over.

The bridal couple was just getting into a car with a thirteen-year-old child when a vehicle with masked men blocked them. The group shot the 27-year-old bride dead. The 25-year-old groom and the child were seriously injured. In the firefight that ensued, one of the perpetrators was also killed.

After the incident, the French police started a manhunt for the perpetrators. Among other things, a helicopter was deployed. It is unclear how many suspects are being sought, but the first two arrests took place on Monday.

According to French media, the incident may be related to drug-related crime. It would be a retaliation.
