US President Donald Trump left for Alaska on Friday for his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. After departure, Trump emphasized that he is not going to negotiate on behalf of Ukraine. According to him, Ukraine himself decides on matters such as giving up territory.
Trump got on the plane to Alaska around 2 p.m. According to the US president, it is his goal to get Ukraine and Russia at the negotiating table, so that topics such as territorial exchanges can be discussed.
“There will be talk about territory, but it is up to Ukraine to make that decision,” Trump told reporters on board Air Force One. “I think they will make a wise choice. But I am not here to negotiate on behalf of Ukraine. I am here to get them at the table.”
Trump said in the past that Ukraine should give up territory that has been conquered by the Russians. The Kremlin would even have set that as a condition for a file or sustainable peace.
Ukraine, in turn, won a piece of Russia in the war, but that was largely recaptured by the Russians. It is unclear whether Trump means exchange that Ukraine must give up territory in exchange for a file.

Trump is in Alaska with a group of important ministers, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Marco Rubio, Minister of Trade Howard Lutnick, Finance Minister Scott Bessent and CIA director John Ratcliffe.
