Tropical warmth and heat plan in the start of the week, then thunder and cooling

In the first half of next week, it will be tropical warm in the Netherlands. Especially Tuesday and Wednesday will see tropical temperatures, with peaks of up to 36 degrees in the south. After Wednesday, thunderstorms are expected and it will cool down quickly.

On Monday, tropical heat is already expected with temperatures of 25 to 33 degrees, writes Weeronline. On Tuesday, temperatures will rise even further. Throughout the country, it will be 30 degrees or more on Tuesday, in Limburg it could even be 36 degrees.

In addition to the temperature, the humidity is also high, which can make it feel stuffy. In addition, the sun will shine with a solar power of 8 in the coming days, something that does not happen often in our country. With this solar power, unprotected skin can burn within ten to fifteen minutes.

Tropical heat is also expected on Wednesday, with temperatures of 28 to 34 degrees. This means that there will be a regional heatwave: this requires three consecutive days of more than 30 degrees locally. An official heatwave depends on the measured temperature in De Bilt.

In the course of Wednesday it will cool down somewhat. This is because the wind is turning and cooler air is being supplied. Weeronline expects this to be accompanied by thunderstorms. After Wednesday, the heat is over. The temperature will then drop to 20 to 25 degrees, because the north wind supplies less warm air. There may also be a shower sometimes, and it will also be cooler at night.

National Heat Plan in effect from Monday 10:00 AM

Due to the heat, the National Heat Plan will be in effect for the entire country from Monday 10:00 AM. With this plan, the RIVM warns organizations, informal caregivers and people in healthcare about the persistent heat, so that they can take appropriate measures.

The RIVM calls on people to pay extra attention to vulnerable people in their environment. Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, young children, the homeless and people with poor health can suffer from this.

The KNMI advises, among other things, to stay out of the sun, drink enough water and not to do heavy physical activities between 12:00 and 18:00. It is also advisable not to leave children and pets in a closed car, not even for a few minutes.

The last time the National Heat Plan was in effect was from August 10 to August 16, 2022. An important condition for the plan is persistent heat of four days or longer.
