Train traffic south of Rotterdam still disturbed after power outage

Due to a power outage in a railway tunnel between Rotterdam Central and Rotterdam South, no high-speed trains have been running between Rotterdam and Breda since Saturday afternoon. There are also no trains running between Rotterdam and Dordrecht. This will last at least until 2:15 PM, NS reported on Sunday morning.

The problem arose on Saturday in the Willemsspoortunnel due to a power outage at the electricity supplier. As a result, no trains can pass through the tunnel, which is very important for both domestic and international train traffic from Rotterdam towards the south.

NS previously thought that the disruption might be resolved on Saturday. Although a spokesperson also told NU.nl that it is difficult to make a good estimate in the event of such a disruption. Therefore, it could also take longer.

International travelers in particular are experiencing a lot of inconvenience from the disrupted train traffic. For example, the Eurostar to Paris runs via Utrecht, Den Bosch, and Breda, resulting in longer travel times.

Other international trains to Brussels, the EuroCity and Eurocity Direct, still depart from Breda. Passengers must first travel from Rotterdam Central to Breda to continue their international journey there.

Due to the disruption, no trains are running to Dordrecht and Breda. Passengers who want to travel from Rotterdam to Breda are advised to travel via Utrecht Central and Den Bosch.
