Tomorrowland will open completely today after burning the main stage

Tomorrowland will fully open today. This means that the Belgian dance festival is largely sticking to its original schedule, despite the major fire that destroyed the main stage on Wednesday evening. A new stage has now been built.

Headliners such as Martin Garrix, Axwell, and Vini Vici will perform on the main stage on Friday. The festival doors open at 2:00 PM, two hours later than initially planned. The new main stage is scheduled to open at 4:00 PM, subject to change.

On Thursday evening, a spokesperson for the organization already said that the festival would go ahead no matter what. It was just not yet certain whether the new main stage would be ready in time. “But our teams have worked day and night with heart and soul,” the organization writes on Instagram today.

If the new main stage had not been ready, the 38,000 festival-goers staying at Dreamville (the festival’s campsite) would not have had access to the festival grounds on Friday and would have had their own party. But that plan is now off the table.

It is not known how the fire started. Fireworks displays usually take place at the main stage. Images of the fire show fireworks exploding. There are no reports of injuries.

Tomorrowland is one of the most popular dance festivals in the Benelux and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year, spread over two weekends. The first festival weekend starts today. The organization expects a total of around 380,000 visitors.
