Tomorrowland also uses replacement main stage after fire this weekend

The Belgian festival Tomorrowland will keep the temporary main stage this coming weekend that was built at the last minute last week after the major fire that destroyed the original stage. Nothing will change for visitors to the layout of the site.

The first festival weekend in Boom went “surprisingly normal” according to the organization, despite the fire shortly before the start. A smaller version of the main stage was built in a few days.

“We will continue to work on the backstage area of the main stage, because it was made very ‘basic’ after the fire,” spokeswoman Debby Wilmsen told news agency Belga. “But the visitor won’t notice anything.”

The French DJ David Guetta closed the first weekend on Sunday evening. Despite the damage to the stage, fireworks were still set off. “It was only stage fireworks, not the big spectacle that we normally do,” says Wilmsen. “But it was very beautiful and the reactions were positive.”

The weekend also had an incident in which a female visitor became unwell and later died. The cause of death has not yet been determined, but according to the organization, there are indications that drug use may have played a role.
