Third suspect Alblasserdam prosecuted for twice attempted manslaughter

A 44-year-old suspect in the stabbing in Alblasserdam will be prosecuted for two counts of attempted manslaughter. The pre-trial detention of the man from Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht has been extended by two weeks, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) announced on Monday on X.

The two other suspects, a 35-year-old man from Alblasserdam and a 39-year-old man from Drieborg in Groningen, were released on Monday morning. They are still suspects, but may await their trial in freedom. The two have been released under the condition of a behavioral instruction.

They must adhere to certain conditions until they are brought before the court again, a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service (OM) reported earlier. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) could not say what this behavioral instruction entails.

The 44-year-old suspect was in the hall on Wednesday evening during the school musical, reports Rijnmond. The two other suspects approached him, after which an argument ensued.

During the argument, a 53-year-old elementary school teacher was stabbed who tried to mediate. The man ended up seriously injured in the hospital. A day later, he was out of danger. The teacher was discharged from the hospital on Monday morning.
