Swiatek does not give Anisimova any game and grabs her first Wimbledon title

Iga Swiatek won Wimbledon for the first time on Saturday. The Polish number five seed didn’t give the American Amanda Anisimova a single game in the final in London: 6-0 and 6-0.

The 24-year-old Swiatek had no trouble with the one-year-younger Anisimova. The world number four had won the first set in 25 minutes. The second set lasted just over half an hour.

Swiatek had little success at Wimbledon until this year. A quarter-final place in 2023 was her best performance on the grass in London until this edition. Swiatek now has six Grand Slam titles. She was previously the best at Roland Garros (2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024) and the US Open (2022).

For Anisimova (WTA-12), it was her first Grand Slam final. In 2019, at the age of seventeen, she impressively reached the semi-finals at Roland Garros. After that, she struggled with mental problems, among other things, and temporarily distanced herself from tennis.

Anisimova has had the Dutchman Rick Vleeshouwers as her coach for a year. The former top talent made an impression in the semi-finals by defeating Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarusian number one in the world lost to Anisimova in three sets.
