Suzan & Freek have decided to become coaches on The voice of Holland despite Freek’s illness. The couple put all their work down when it turned out that Freek has an incurable disease, but is now performing again. They also don’t want to miss The Voice.
“You see it right: we are just there,” Suzan & Freek write on Instagram. “This fall, we will take our place in our duo chair at The voice of Holland. Under the motto ‘do what makes you happy,’ this is something we have been looking forward to for months.”
In March, it was announced that The voice of Holland would return to television. In addition to Suzan & Freek, Dinand Woesthoff from Kane, Ilse DeLange, and Willie Wartaal were hired as coaches. When it turned out last month that Freek has metastatic lung cancer, it seemed that Suzan & Freek would not be involved after all. They say they were given all the time by RTL to make a decision.
“The chemistry with the rest of the club feels so incredibly good and real, and we are so excited about it,” they write. “We have been given full space by the program makers and the broadcaster in recent times to make the right assessment for us in this, for which thanks. We absolutely do not want to miss this great adventure and are already looking forward to the talents that we will be able to welcome during the recordings this fall.”
Suzan & Freek made their comeback last week at the Concert at SEA festival. They were received there with loud applause. “Last month, we learned that there is actually only one thing that is important. That there is one thing that counts, and that is being in the now,” Freek said on stage.
The voice of Holland disappeared from television in 2022 when it turned out that several employees had allegedly engaged in sexual harassment. The talent show returns to RTL now that new rules have been drawn up to make the program safer. The presentation of the new season is in the hands of Chantal Janzen and Edson da Graça.
