Suzan & Freek have been on vacation to Texel, they announced on Instagram. Last month it was announced that Freek has metastatic lung cancer and will not recover. “It was very nice to be in a different environment with just the two of us.”
Freek has now started life-extending medication. The duo also announced last month that they are expecting their first child at the end of this year.
“We were on Texel for a few days this week to get away from it all,” the couple writes. “It was very nice to be in a different environment with just the two of us and get some fresh air.” The duo explored the island by bike. “We had nice conversations with each other at sunset and looked ahead and dreamed together.”
Suzan & Freek announce that it feels good to have a great time with each other and do fun things, in addition to the anxious moments. “‘Now’ is all there is, and we try to be there as much as possible.”
Initially, Suzan & Freek canceled all upcoming performances, but recently the duo announced that they will still perform at a few festivals this summer.
Suzan & Freek broke through in 2019 with the hit single Als Het Avond Is. Since then they have scored major hits with songs such as Blauwe Dag, De Overkant and Slapeloosheid. Earlier this month their new single Batterij was released. In 2022 they won the Edison for the best album with Dromen In Kleur. The two have been together for eighteen years. At the end of 2023 they said “I do”.
