A 32-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested on Monday in Balen, Belgium. He is suspected of a shooting incident in a Rotterdam party center in early February, in which two men were seriously injured. One of them died in the hospital from his injuries.
Police said on Tuesday that the arrest of the fugitive suspect is a breakthrough in the case. The man was arrested in a home “where he was hiding in a storage space of a sofa bed.” The suspect resisted arrest, sustaining injuries that required hospital treatment.
The man is suspected of shooting both inside and outside the party venue on Galvanistraat in Rotterdam. Inside, the two victims were injured, one of whom later died from his injuries.
No one was injured outside, but police say a bullet narrowly missed two people. “That means he is charged with manslaughter and two counts of attempted manslaughter,” police said of the suspect.
The suspect will be brought before the investigating judge in Turnhout, Belgium. Then the extradition procedure begins.
