The suspect in the shooting in Gouda, in which a 39-year-old woman died, has died. The 53-year-old man was found seriously injured in Scheveningen on Tuesday evening; assistance was to no avail. He was the woman’s ex-partner, police reported on Wednesday.

Police received a report of a shooting incident on Bosweg in Gouda at 3:30 PM on Tuesday. A 39-year-old woman from Eindhoven was found on the street by emergency services. She died at the scene from her injuries. The suspect was still at large.

After an hours-long search, the suspect was found seriously injured around 8:05 PM in the dunes near the Zwarte Pad in Scheveningen. Emergency services tried to save the man, but assistance was to no avail. He died at the scene.

The suspect was a 53-year-old man from Eindhoven and the ex-partner of the deceased woman. Police do not suspect foul play in the man’s death and believe he took his own life.

Because the man has died, there will be no public hearing, police write. The Public Prosecution Service and the police will therefore also be reluctant to make further announcements about the case.
