Suspect arrested and found car after deadly collision cyclist in Friesland

The police have arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of possible involvement in a fatal collision in Burdaard, Friesland. A cyclist was hit by a black pickup truck and died. The driver of the car drove on.

The police received a report about the incident around 0:17 AM. A 33-year-old man from Stiens was injured in a collision with a vehicle on the Iedyk, after which the driver continued driving.

At the scene, police found a bicycle, which the victim was probably riding. He did not survive the collision. Assistance was of no avail.

The police then launched an investigation and searched for a black pickup truck and its driver. On Thursday, a 35-year-old man from the municipality of Noardeast-Fryslân was arrested on suspicion of possible involvement in the collision, police said.

The car that may have been involved in the collision was also found by the police. The man is in custody and is being questioned. “His role in the incident is currently being investigated,” a police spokesperson told NU.nl.
