Sunday heat plan in Limburg and Brabant, then possible in more provinces

From Sunday, the National Heatwave Plan will be in effect in the provinces of Limburg and North Brabant. This was decided by the RIVM after consultation with the KNMI. The plan may be expanded later. There is a high probability of a regional heatwave in the south.

The RIVM primarily wants to warn informal caregivers and healthcare professionals that it is getting very hot. Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, young children, the homeless, and people with poor health may be affected.

The National Heatwave Plan is activated when it is persistently hot. The temperature at night and humidity are also considered. From Sunday, this will be the case in the south and east of the country. “It can become tropically warm with 30 or 31 degrees there,” writes Weeronline.

In the following days, the temperature will rise even further. Tuesday could be the warmest day. In the south and southeast, it could even reach 35 or 36 degrees. Elsewhere in the country, temperatures will also rise above 30 degrees. According to Weeronline, there is a high probability of a regional heatwave in the south.

In Amsterdam, walk-in centers for the homeless will be open longer on Monday and Tuesday due to the heat. These centers offer shelter, and people can drink water and use sunscreen. The arrangement is part of the Amsterdam heatwave plan, which is being activated for the first time.

Hot days are also expected in other parts of Europe. In Italy, the Ministry of Health has even issued a code red for around twenty cities, including Rome and Milan. Temperatures there could reach 39 degrees this weekend. In cities such as Florence, Ferrara, and Terni, the temperature could rise to 40 degrees in the shade.
