Suggled Wiegman shines after a new victory at the European Championship: 'We are another team'

Sarina Wiegman is delighted that England have reached the quarter-finals of the Women’s European Football Championship in Switzerland after two convincing wins. The head coach still has to get used to being sung to by the English fans.

England won 6-1 against Wales on Sunday, meaning the defending champions finished second in the group. Wiegman’s team started the tournament with a 2-1 defeat against France, but recovered against the Netherlands (4-0 win).

“After the defeat against France, we knew something had to happen,” Wiegman said at the press conference. “We are a team again and look to each other. I am happy with our matches against Wales and the Netherlands.”

“I hope we continue this upward trend. In the last two matches, we have created many chances. And now we have to do the same against Sweden in the quarter-finals.”

The English fans sang to Wiegman. “That’s very nice, but I feel a bit uncomfortable with it. They were being creative again. In any case, I hope they can sing again in the upcoming matches.”

England will play against Sweden in Zurich on Thursday at 9:00 PM. The other quarter-finals are Norway-Italy (Wednesday), Spain-Switzerland (Friday) and France-Germany (Saturday).
