Spanje heeft zich woensdag geplaatst voor de finale van het EK voetbal voor vrouwen in Zwitserland. De Zuid-Europese ploeg won na verlenging van Duitsland: 1-0. In de finale wachten Engeland en bondscoach Sarina Wiegman.
Na negentig minuten voetbal stond er 0-0 op het scorebord in Zürich. Er moest een verlenging aan te pas komen, waarin Spanje aan het langste eind trok.
Aitana Bonmatí werd de vrouw van de avond. De Spaanse aanvoerder verraste de Duitse keeper in de 113e minuut met een laag schot in de korte hoek.
Duitsland zocht daarna nog de aanval, maar kwam niet tot scoren. Zo plaatste regerend wereldkampioen Spanje zich voor de finale van zondag.
Daarin nemen de Spaanse vrouwen het op tegen Engeland. De ploeg van bondscoach Sarina Wiegman plaatste zich dinsdag voor de finale door na verlenging met 2-1 te winnen van Italië.
