The 31-year-old Jesse R. has confessed to decapitating his mother with an ax in Hellevoetsluis on April 16. The woman’s head was found together with the ax in a bag in the car in which the suspect was arrested.
On Monday, an initial preliminary hearing took place in the court of Dordrecht. According to the public prosecutor, the suspect was presumably in a psychosis when he killed his 63-year-old mother. R. still needs to be examined in the Pieter Baan Center.
The woman’s body was found in her home on April 16 by a friend. The friend had seen the son fleeing, after which R. came into the picture as a suspect. He was arrested shortly afterwards on the A4 near Schiedam in his mother’s car.
According to lawyer Job Knoester, his client had been on the radar of mental health care for some time. The lawyer says that R. is slowly beginning to realize what he has done. “He thinks that’s terrible,” says Knoester.
The lawyer would like to hear a therapist as a witness who spoke to R. shortly before his act. According to Knoester, the woman can sketch a picture of the condition his client was in at that time. The suspect wrote on his LinkedIn page more than a year ago that he was manic depressive.
The next hearing in this case is on October 21. It will also be a preliminary hearing. The expectation is that R. will not be able to be examined in the Pieter Baan Center until November due to the long waiting list. The man remains in custody for the time being.
