A small passenger plane crashed near London Southend Airport shortly after takeoff on Sunday afternoon. It is unclear how many people were on the plane and how they are doing.
Unverified images show the plane surrounded by flames. Witnesses told British media that a “fireball” was seen.
Emergency services are present at the scene of the incident. Police received a report of the incident shortly before 5:00 PM (Dutch time). “We are now working with all emergency services on site,” police said in a statement.
Reportedly, the plane’s destination was Lelystad Airport. It is unknown how many people were on board the plane and if there are any casualties.
Southend Airport is one of the smaller airports around the English capital, London. On average, 74 planes depart and land there per day. In comparison, London Gatwick has about four hundred flights per day, and Heathrow, the busiest airport in Europe, averages 1,300.
