
Small Dutch providers have been the target of Chinese hackers, report information services AIVD and MIVD Thursday. The hackers have gained access to routers, but according to the services would not have penetrated internal networks.
The AIVD, MIVD and the National Cyber Security Center have shared information with the affected companies and “other relevant target groups”.
Large Dutch telecommunications providers were not the target of the hacking organization Salt Typhoon. That organization receives support from the Chinese state.
According to the intelligence services, the cyberspionage was discovered at the end of last year. It was a global operation from China aimed at telecommunications providers.
“The Dutch organizations probably did not probably receive the same degree of attention from the hackers of Salt Typhoon as those in the United States,” say the intelligence services.
American and other European intelligence services have also issued a warning for Salt Typhoon.
