Six more children in hospital after serious accident with British school bus

At least six children and three adults remain hospitalized on Friday following the serious bus accident Thursday evening in Exmoor, Britain. A school bus sped off a slope at high speed, after which the vehicle overturned.

A ten-year-old boy was killed. The school bus carried about seventy people, including many children, who had just been on a school trip to a local zoo.

“It is an unimaginable loss,” school principal Laura Mackie told BBC News. “Our thoughts are with the deceased student and the family and relatives.”

British emergency services responded en masse. Initially, there were at least 21 injured, several of whom were taken to the hospital by trauma helicopters.

The cause of the crash is not yet clear. British police are looking for witnesses and expect the investigation to take some time. “We expect the road to be closed for a considerable time,” BBC News writes based on a police spokesperson.

In front of the entrance of Minehead Middle School, residents have laid flowers in memory of the deceased student. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the incident heartbreaking. He wrote on X: “There are no appropriate words to acknowledge the death of a child. My thoughts are with their parents, family and friends, and all those affected.”
