Jannik Sinner reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon with playful ease on Saturday. The world number one defeated Pedro Martínez 6-1, 6-3, and 6-1. In the women’s bracket, top talent Mirra Andreeva also joined the last sixteen.
Sinner secured the first set within half an hour. The Italian had a slightly tougher time with Martínez in the second set but distanced himself from the Spaniard after a break in the fifth game.
In the third, Sinner left little to the Spaniard. In no time, the three-time Grand Slam winner was leading 5-0. Martínez fended off two match points, but the world number 52 still had to admit defeat after 1 hour and 55 minutes.
Sinner will face Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov or Austrian Sebastian Ofner in the round of 16. He is chasing his first title at Wimbledon. Earlier, the Italian did win the Australian Open twice (2024 and 2025) and the US Open once (2024).
In the women’s bracket, eighteen-year-old Andreeva had little trouble with American Hailey Baptiste: 6-1 and 6-3. The Russian top talent will face defending champion Barbora Krejcíková or American Emma Navarro in the round of 16.
Andreeva is in the round of 16 at Wimbledon for the second time. Two years ago, the world number seven also reached the last sixteen on the London grass at the age of sixteen. She previously reached the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament at Roland Garros last year.
