Sinner ends on Alcaraz despite missing title, Griekspoor rises one place

Sinner

Jannik Sinner has strengthened his number 1 position despite his defeat in the Roland Garros final. The Italian has progressed one round further than last year and is therefore extending his lead over Roland Garros winner Carlos Alcaraz. Tallon Griekspoor rises one place.

Last year, Sinner lost to Alcaraz in the semi-finals. This year, the 23-year-old Italian lost in a 5.5-hour final against the 22-year-old Spaniard. The difference between Sinner and number two Alcaraz is 2,030 points. The German Alexander Zverev remains the number three.

The Brit Jack Draper is the new number four. With that, the 23-year-old Draper records his highest ranking to date. In Paris he reached the fourth round, in which he lost to the Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the new number 43 in the world.

Griekspoor, the best Dutch tennis player, rose from 35th to 34th place in the world ranking. The tennis player from Nieuw-Vennep reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam in Paris for the first time in his career. But he had to give up injured in it.

Compatriots Botic van de Zandschulp and Jesper de Jong are 90th and 92nd on the world list. Both are active this week at the Rosmalen grass tournament, which starts on Monday.

Sabalenka remains number one, Lamens drops

In the women’s, Aryna Sabalenka is still the number one. The Belarusian tennis player lost in the final to number two Coco Gauff, but still has a large lead over the American. Gauff’s compatriot Jessica Pegula remains third.

Suzan Lamens, the best Dutch tennis player, lost in her debut at Roland Garros and therefore dropped from 69th to 82nd place in the world ranking. Arantxa Rus reached the second round in Paris and rose six places by matching her performance from last year. The 34-year-old Rus is now 88th.

Lamens, like Van de Zandschulp and De Jong, will also participate in the Libéma Open in Rosmalen this week. Rus and Griekspoor are not participating. Griekspoor is struggling with an abdominal muscle injury, while Rus is playing a gravel tournament in Valencia, Spain.
