Jannik Sinner has reached the final of Roland Garros for the first time on Friday evening. The 23-year-old Italian was too strong for Novak Djokovic in Paris in three sets: 6-4, 7-5 and 7-6 (3).
The 23-year-old Sinner started sharply in the semi-final on Court Philippe-Chatrier. He broke Djokovic early in the first set and did not relinquish that lead. The Italian also had the initiative in the second set.
At 5-4 he already got a first set point, but he was broken at that moment. Djokovic leveled the score, but immediately surrendered his serve again. Sinner finished it off on his second chance: 7-5.
In the third set, the game remained even for a long time. Djokovic came to 5-4 and got three set points, but Sinner worked them all away. In the tiebreak, the Italian was again the coolest of the two. He immediately struck on his first match point.
Djokovic was in the semi-finals of Roland Garros for the fourteenth time. The 38-year-old Serbian, winner in 2016, 2021 and 2023, hoped to extend his record number of Grand Slam titles to 25. But against the fifteen years younger Sinner he never really got into the game.
For Sinner, this is the first time he has reached the final in Paris. Earlier this year he already won the Australian Open. In the final on Sunday he will meet Carlos Alcaraz, who qualified earlier in the day after Lorenzo Musetti had to give up injured.
