Billy Joel has canceled all his upcoming performances. The American singer has been diagnosed with a brain condition that affects his hearing, vision, and balance.
The 76-year-old Joel suffers from normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). In this brain condition, excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates, leading to several complaints. Joel had been experiencing complaints for some time, which his manager said were exacerbated by recent performances.
On the advice of his doctor, the singer has canceled all his upcoming performances. “On the advice of his doctor, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised not to perform during this recovery period. Billy is grateful for the excellent care he is receiving and is now putting his health first,” his management writes in a statement.
Joel had seventeen major performances planned until the summer of 2026. Two of them were in the United Kingdom, the rest in the United States. Joel has apologized for canceling the performances. “I am sincerely sorry that I have to disappoint my audience,” he wrote to his fans.
In March, it was already announced that Joel had undergone surgery, but it was not reported what for. It is unclear whether the procedure was related to his current diagnosis. At the singer’s last show, last February in Connecticut, he lost his balance after throwing away his microphone stand.
