Sifan Hassan has withdrawn from the Diamond League meeting in London on Wednesday. The Dutch athlete has not been feeling well this week, which has prevented her from preparing optimally for Saturday’s competition.
“I was really looking forward to running in London. But I haven’t felt great this past week because my body wasn’t responding as well as I wanted it to,” Hassan wrote on X.
“I love this competition and I feel sorry for the organization and my fans. But after consulting with my team, we decided it’s smarter to skip the competition, stay focused, and continue preparing for what’s coming this season.”
The 32-year-old Hassan was scheduled to compete in London for the first time this year on the track. The Olympic marathon champion was set to participate in the English mile.
Hassan is preparing for the Sydney Marathon on August 31. She will not participate in the World Athletics Championships on the track in Tokyo in September.
Hassan last competed in April. She finished third in the London Marathon. In 2023, she won this marathon.
