The players of Vitesse are present at Papendal, the club’s training complex, on Friday. Despite the revocation of the club’s professional license, the team will still train. Vitesse hopes for a miracle through the civil court.
“All players are simply present at Papendal today,” the Vitesse spokesperson tells NU.nl. “We have to keep going.” Training in Arnhem starts at 11:00 AM.
Without a professional license, Vitesse is not allowed to participate in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, which starts the new season next Friday. But because the club has one more chance to continue as a professional club in civil court, the players will be on the training field on Friday.
“We can’t just give up on everything,” says the spokesperson. On Friday morning, the staff of the Arnhem club came together for a meeting. “We put our heads together for a moment. Everyone is defeated and affected.”
What the consequences are for the players is not yet known. The Vitesse spokesperson expects the players to be updated on the state of affairs on Friday.
Vitesse said in an initial response on Thursday that the club is expected to file a summary proceeding against the KNVB. It is not yet clear when a possible summary proceeding will take place.
