Sabrina Carpenter has unveiled an alternative album cover for her new record Man’s Best Friend. The new cover is less controversial than the original, which caused a stir earlier this month.
On the original cover (see the photo above this article), Carpenter is on her hands and knees, while a man grabs her by her hair. Critics called the photo provocative, sexist, and misogynistic.
Under the announcement of the album on Instagram with the original cover, one reaction read: “Am I the only one who finds this dehumanizing to women?”. The comment was endorsed by thousands of others.
Carpenter has not yet responded directly to the criticism but refers to it subtly when revealing the alternative cover (see photo below). “And here is a new alternative cover, approved by God,” she writes. In this black-and-white version, she lays her head on a man’s shoulder.
The American singer, known for hits like Espresso and Please Please Please, will release her new album on August 29.
