Ronnie Flex loses an appeal against former record label

Ronnie Flex has largely lost the appeal against his former record label Top Notch. The Court of Appeal in Amsterdam rejected almost all of the rapper’s demands. Flex only won on the end date of the contract.

The case concerned the contract that 33-year-old Ronell Plasschaert, as Flex is actually called, signed with Top Notch in 2012. The musician claims that he had little understanding of business when he entered into the agreement and therefore did not understand what he was signing. Flex would have received too little money from the record label.

Flex also discovered that his original music recordings are not his property. Furthermore, he states that his contract ended in 2019. According to the record label, that was in 2020.

The rapper, producer and songwriter decided to leave Top Notch after three albums and file a lawsuit. The court has now ruled that the agreement between Flex and the label ended on September 22, 2019.

Last year, the court ruled that all agreements were clearly stated in the contract. The judge then pointed out that the inexperienced Flex, who now has his own record label ADF ENT, was assisted by his then-manager.

During the hearing of the appeal, Flex said that he was particularly bothered by the fact that he had “little to nothing” left over from the collaboration, while Top Notch did benefit. “Let’s just divide it fairly and not in a way that I am severely disadvantaged,” he said. According to the musician, it would be more about “the moral” and not just about money.
