Roda JC has presented Kevin Van Dessel as their new head coach on Monday. The former player of the Limburg club succeeds Bas Sibum, who left for Heracles Almelo.
Van Dessel comes from KAA Gent, where he was active as an assistant coach. For the 46-year-old Belgian, this will be his first job as head coach. He was previously a youth coach at Roda JC.
Between 1999 and 2007, Van Dessel was an active player for Roda JC. He wore the captain’s armband several times and won the KNVB Cup with the club from Kerkrade in the 1999/2000 season.
Nowadays, Roda JC has slipped to the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. Last season, the Limburgers disappointingly finished twelfth. A year earlier, Roda JC painfully missed promotion to the Eredivisie.
Sibum had previously announced that he would be leaving for Heracles Almelo after the season. He is the successor to Erwin van de Looi at the Overijssel club.
