Rod Stewart 'loses tons' by playing on Glastonbury

Rod Stewart will perform at the Glastonbury Festival at the end of June, but says he won’t make much money from it. In Radio Times magazine, the singer says he pays for a large part of the costs himself.

According to Stewart, it costs him more than 300,000 pounds (almost 355,000 euros) to make his performance at the festival possible. That amount is spent on, among other things, the transport of equipment and personnel from the United States, where he is currently on tour. Glastonbury reportedly pays artists “only about 120,000 pounds,” according to the singer.

“They asked me about eight months ago if I wanted to do it, but it didn’t fit well into my schedule because I have to bring everyone back from America,” says the eighty-year-old artist.

Stewart closes the festival with the so-called Legends slot, traditionally reserved for an artist with a long track record. Other big names on the bill include The 1975, Neil Young, and Olivia Rodrigo. Despite the financial loss, Stewart says he attaches more value to playing at the famous festival. “So it’s going to cost me a lot. But that doesn’t matter.”
