Rigters now wants a title fight with Verhoeven, for Ben Saddik fight ‘too early’

After his victory, Levi Rigters is already secretly working on a new title fight against Rico Verhoeven. The thirty-year-old Dutchman won thanks to a spectacular kick from the Belgian-Moroccan kick boxer, who could no longer get up in time.

“I really needed this victory,” said Rigters at Dazn . “I have been away for a while and I need victories to get better. That is the only way to get a new title fight. That is what I want.”

Because of the victory over Ben Saddik, Rigters qualified for the next round of the so-called Last Heavyweight Standing tournament, which takes place in October. If he also wins that party, he will participate in the final tournament in December. The winner of that tournament will most likely compete against Verhoeven.

To keep a chance on a new title fight with Rico Verhoeven, Rigters must first deal with the Russian Asadulla Nasipov in October. “I looked at his fight today and was impressed. It is not easy, but I will be ready.”

Ben Saddik and Rigters had never fought against each other until Saturday evening. The two would meet each other in 2022 in Hasselt, Belgium, but that clash was canceled at the time due to massive fights in the audience.

This time there was only fighting in the ring. With a spectacular spinning backkick, Rigters took care of Ben Saddik’s knockout. “I love that technique,” said Rigters. “We often trained on it during the training camp. It is wonderful that it is now bearing fruit.”

Ben Saddik wrote on Instagram on Sunday morning that the fight with Rigters had come too early for him. “The fight in August came a little too early for me because of my shin injury, but I am grateful that I could and could fight the ring,” said Ben Saddik, who still had to strike the fight with a big wound on his shin.

“Thank you all for the support and Levi congratulations on the victory. After two strong rounds, I went down through a perfectly executed backspin Liberkick . Now I focus on October and I can’t wait to be back.”

On Friday, Ben Saddik indicated that the tibia injury had not hindered him in preparation and that he was ready for it. “I’m going to show another Jamal and go to put a lot of pain in the ring. These are the fights for which I was made and I go full for the knockout. I am willing to die in the ring,” he said a day before the fight.
