The American Viceminister of Health Jim O’Neill becomes acting director of Health Service CDC. The Washington Post and Axios report this. Earlier this week the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Susan Monarez, was fired.
O’Neill was a common critic of the CDC during the Coronapandemie. He claimed on social media that the service had tampered with collecting data, had communicated poorly with the public and had too much influence.
During hearings in May, he said he was “avid supporter” of vaccines and supporting the CDC vaccination program. O’Neill said that he wanted to reform “outdated rules” and pursued transparency within federal health authorities.
According to American media, the resignation of Monarez followed conflicts between Monarez and health minister Robert F. Kennedy Jr. about the American vaccination policy. Kennedy is known as an antivaxer. Three managers within the CDC submitted their resignation after the departure of Monarez.
Kennedy said in an interview with Fox News on Thursday that the CDC did not fit in with President Donald Trump’s policy and had to be thoroughly reformed. He was critical of the policy that the service conducted during the Corona Pandemie.
Lawyers from Monarez stated earlier that she was fired because she “refused to approve unscientific, reckless guidelines and to dismiss dedicated health experts”.
The White House has not yet responded to American media about questions about O’Neill’s appointment.
