In Bride Hard, Rebel Wilson plays secret agent Sam. When her best friend’s wedding is taken over by mercenaries, she has no choice but to take action. NU.nl lists the reviews of the action comedy.
De Volkskrant – 1 star
“The title is simply good. Die Hard combined with Bridesmaids, that promises a comical mix of nice action and crude women’s humor. Certainly with Wilson in the leading role as bridesmaid/superspy, something like that should at least deliver a summery guilty pleasure in the worst case.”
“It seems as if the makers have also assumed this. The script is lazy and full of colorless, uninteresting characters, the action scenes are badly and carelessly directed. With dead (word) jokes and failed slapstick, Bride Hard fishes so vainly for laughter that it ultimately almost physically hurts the viewer.”
Trouw – 3 stars
“Bride Hard draws inspiration from comedies like Bridesmaids and cheerful spy films like Spy, in which Melissa McCarthy as an unadjusted, foul-mouthed agent caused more chaos than order.”
“The fact that the amusing idea gets off the ground somewhat is thanks to a lively cast. The energetic Wilson and Anna Camp, once fun together in Pitch Perfect, can safely be sent for one-liners. You can also rely on Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who received an Oscar for The Holdovers.”
Het Parool – gives no stars
“Bride Hard promises to mix the comedy of Bridesmaids with the action of Die Hard, but fulfills neither promise. There is little fun to be had from this bland action comedy.”
“The plot seems to come straight from a television film for children. The action scenes are poor, with mediocre camerawork and choreography. The jokes almost never hit the mark.”
