The professional footballer Quincy Promes, extradited by Dubai, arrived at Schiphol on Friday evening. This was reported to the ANP by the Public Prosecution Service.
After the plane landed, two white armored vans of the Royal Marechaussee drove off the grounds at Schiphol-East, an ANP reporter saw. Promes was most likely in one of the vans. People who were watching were unable to see him.
Last week Thursday, it was announced that the 33-year-old Promes had been arrested in Dubai. The Netherlands had requested his extradition. Earlier on Friday, it became clear that the footballer was en route to the Netherlands.
Promes has been sentenced by the court in Amsterdam to six years in prison for involvement in the smuggling of cocaine and to eighteen months for stabbing his cousin. Both cases have been merged on appeal.
Shortly before his arrest, Promes indicated that he wanted to return to the Netherlands to attend the hearings, provided he would not be arrested. The court rejected this request.
