Freddie Mercury secretly had a daughter, according to a biography that will be released in September. The Queen singer had a close relationship with her until his death in 1991 and visited her regularly.
The child was accidentally conceived during an affair with the wife of a good friend of Mercury, according to the Daily Mail in the book Love, Freddie. Only the circle around the singer would have been aware of her existence.
Mercury’s daughter is now 48 years old. She is only known as B and works as a medical professional in Europe. The book also contains a handwritten letter from the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous.
“Freddie Mercury was and is my father,” the letter reads. “From my birth and during the last fifteen years of his life, we had a very close and loving relationship. He adored me and was devoted to me.”
The Queen singer shared diaries with his daughter, the book says. In it, he wrote about, among other things, his childhood.
Mercury’s 48-year-old daughter shared her story with Lesley-Ann Jones, the author of the new biography. Jones had already written several books about the Queen singer. In another letter in the book, daughter ‘B’ explains why she is sharing her story after all these years.
“After more than three decades of lies and speculation, it is time to let Freddie speak,” she writes. “Those who were aware of my existence kept his biggest secret out of loyalty. My choosing to share my story in middle age is entirely my own decision.”
