PSV is in danger of losing Malik Tillman to Bayer Leverkusen. According to the German Kicker, the Bundesliga club has reached a personal agreement with the 23-year-old American, who may be able to leave for ‘only’ 35 million euros due to a clause.
Voetbal International and the Eindhovens Dagblad report that Leverkusen has now also contacted PSV to negotiate a transfer of Tillman, who is under contract at the Philips Stadium until mid-2028.
That contract is said to include a clause allowing Bayern Munich to buy Tillman for 35 million euros. That clause was reportedly included in the contract when PSV took over Tillman from Bayern a year ago for 12 million euros.
There is now a lot of uncertainty about that clause. Leverkusen is reportedly seeing an opportunity to take over Tillman for 35 million euros as well. Tillman’s management is also counting on that. This may lead to a legal battle between PSV and Leverkusen. The Eredivisionist would prefer not to let Tillman go, and otherwise the club wants more than 35 million euros.
For Leverkusen, 35 million euros would mean a transfer record, but trainer Erik ten Hag’s club currently has quite a bit to spend. Star player Florian Wirtz was sold to Liverpool this month for 125 million euros. That amount could even increase due to bonuses.
Tillman makes an impression at Gold Cup
PSV will start preparing for the new season next week, but Tillman will not be there anyway. He is currently active with the United States at the Gold Cup in his own country and is making a strong impression there. In the group stage, Tillman scored three times. On Sunday, he will face Costa Rica with the US in the quarter-finals.
Tillman also had a lot of success at PSV. In the past two seasons (in the 2023/2024 season he played on loan in Eindhoven) he scored a total of 21 league goals and grew into one of the best players in the Eredivisie.
Meanwhile, PSV may lose another big name. Napoli has far-reaching interest in Noa Lang, who is open to leaving the Philips Stadium. The Italian club wants to pay 30 million euros for the 26-year-old Oranje international.
