PSV sees Dest injured in the case of practice victory, Pepi makes Rentree

PSV defender SergiƱo Dest was injured on Saturday in the practice match against SV Elversberg at De Herdgang in Eindhoven. The Eindhoven team won 3-1 against the club from the German 2. Bundesliga.

Dest went to the side in the first half due to groin complaints. It is not yet clear how serious the American’s injury is. A week ago, in the practice match against the Belgian champion Union Saint-Gilloise, a PSV player was also injured. Then the new goalkeeper Nick Olij, who was on the sidelines against Elversberg on Saturday, left the field.

Yarek Gasiorowski was on the field. The Spaniard, who came over from Valencia last week, made his unofficial debut for PSV, which played not 90 but 120 minutes against Elversberg. These were two halves of 60 minutes. Gasiorowski came on as a substitute at halftime.

Halfway through, PSV led 2-1, after a good header from Tai Abed and a converted penalty from Esmir Bajraktarevic. After the break, Isaac Babadi scored PSV’s third goal.

In addition to the victory, there was another boost for PSV. Ricardo Pepi made his return fifteen minutes before the end after a long injury period. The American made an impression last season – mainly during substitutions – until he injured his knee in January.

Next season, Pepi will probably get a lot more playing time at PSV, which still does not know whether Luuk de Jong will stay. The striker’s contract has expired, but he is still training individually at the Eindhoven club.

PSV’s next match is in a week against Athletic Club. The reigning national champion’s first official match this season is the battle for the Johan Cruijff Schaal on August 3 at home against KNVB cup winner Go Ahead Eagles.
