PSV confirms Ruben van Bommel: 'No record transfer, but a big one'

PSV has completed the arrival of Ruben van Bommel on Friday. The son of club icon Mark van Bommel comes from AZ. According to the Eindhoven club, it is not a record transfer.

PSV does not make any statements about the exact amount of the transfer fee, which according to various media would be around 15 million euros. However, PSV emphasizes that it is not the most expensive incoming transfer ever for the club. “It is not a record transfer, but a big one,” the club writes.

Before the start of the 2023/2024 season, PSV paid around 15 million euros to Napoli for Hirving Lozano. He is seen as PSV’s record signing.

For the twenty-year-old Van Bommel, it means a return to Eindhoven, where he played in the youth between 2013 and 2020. Via MVV and AZ, he is now joining the main squad of PSV, the club where his father made a name for himself for years.

“To play for PSV 1 myself is secretly something I have always dreamed of,” Van Bommel confesses. “I always had in my head that if PSV were to come forward, I would very much like to go there.”

Van Bommel gets Tillman’s number

Van Bommel will immediately join PSV on a training camp to Germany on Monday and will wear number 7. That number was still owned by Malik Tillman last season, who is reportedly about to leave Eindhoven.

At PSV, Van Bommel is seen as the replacement for Noa Lang. The attacker is also close to leaving Eindhoven. He is reportedly on his way to Napoli.

Van Bommel is the third newcomer of this busy transfer summer at PSV. On Thursday, the club announced the arrival of Valencia defender Yarek Gasiorowski. The club also took over goalkeeper Nick Olij from Sparta Rotterdam.
