PSG trainer Luis Enrique touched by tribute fans to deceased daughter

Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique was touched by the fans’ tribute to his deceased daughter. Immediately after the Champions League final won 5-0 against Internazionale in Munich on Saturday, the supporters of the French club displayed a large banner in memory of Xana.

“It was emotional,” said Luis Enrique at the press conference after the final in the Allianz Arena. “It’s nice that the supporters thought of me and my family.”

Immediately after the final, the supporters unveiled a banner with an image of Luis Enrique and his daughter, who died at the age of nine, planting a PSG flag in the ground.

The two had done the same in 2015 with a flag of FC Barcelona, after Luis Enrique won his first Champions League as coach with the Spanish club. Four years later, Xana died of a rare form of bone cancer.

Enrique emphasized that Xana is always in his thoughts. “I don’t need to win the Champions League or even a match to think of my daughter. She supports me and our family, and I feel her presence.”

Enrique’s wife wears shirt with Xana’s name

Enrique and his wife Elena have had a foundation for some time that supports families with seriously ill children. After the match, the coach also put on a shirt that referred to his deceased daughter and the planting of the flag.

His wife Elena wore a PSG shirt with number 9 and the name Xana on the back. Son Pacho and daughter Sira were also at the festivities on the field.
